"Rich Dad Poor Dad - What the rich teach their kids that you can learn too" by Robert T. Kiyosaki I found this book mind blowing! Yes, that's what I said - Mind Blowing. The concept seems really simple once you've read it, but for me that was just the point, it was so simple, so why hadn't I thought of it already!?! Robert Kiyosaki explains how he is the son of a lecturer, a well educated dad who has a good job and works hard for his family. This is his "poor dad". He works hard for money, but at the end of the day the money he earns is never enough so he just has to work harder - know the feeling? Robert also has a "rich dad", not actually his dad, but his best friend's dad. The rich dad explains how Robert shouldn't be working for his money in the ordinary sense but how his money should be working for him. This basic concept leads Robert (and us via his book) through a journey of realisation of how we spend all our lives working hard to educate ourselves and our children so that they can get well paid jobs and work harder to earn more money, never breaking free of the rat race we all hate. Robert's book explains that there is another way, that we need to change the way we think about money and the way we think about working. He doesn't tell us we don't need formal education, but that we need other skills too, and that a simple game of Monopoly may be just as educational for us and our kids as any classroom text book. I found the whole book an easy read and it certainly gave me more than food for thought for how I deal with finances and look at the world I live in. I still intend to educate my children as much as they want to be educated, but I also intend to teach them the other skills show to me in this book. If you have, or intend to read the book I would love to know your thoughts. Post your thoughts on the Forum under FAB Book Club. Good Reading |
